Wisconsin Farm Technology Days — Bus Transportation Available July 22 for Dodge County Show
Wisconsin's largest outdoor agriculture show will be hosted by Marathon County in 2011. At a media conference held on November 11th, Keith Langenhahn, FTD Executive Committee Chairman introduced Ken and Karen Seehafer of Seehafer Acres, Inc., as the host farm of the 2011 event. Americorps VISTA Postion Available — Applications due July 3.
Marathon County UW-Extension has a year-long Americorps VISTA position available starting in August of 2009. You will have an opportunity to work with a variety of UW-Extension programming initiatives including development of Hispanic youth and parenting groups; expansion of community gardening efforts; and leadership development through the Farm Technology Days community program. Benefits of this Americorps VISTA opportunity include experience working with youth and underserved populations; development of organizational leadership and marketing skills; a monthly living allowance; educational stipend (upon completion of the year-long program you may choose an educational stipend to pay for upcoming tuition or past school loans…or you can take a smaller cash award not tied to tuition); and health insurance. H1N1 (Swine) Flu Outbreak - Extension Disaster Education Network
Human cases of an influenza A (H1N1) - known swine flu - have been identified in several states and in other countries. This is a new influenza A virus that has not been identified in people before, and human-to-human transmission of the virus appears to be ongoing. Master Gardener volunteers offer research-based home horticulture information for your lawn, vegetable garden, trees, shrubs, perennials, and more. These questions are handled by UW-Extension trained Master Gardener volunteers and supported by campus-based specialists. For more >>>

Wisconsin Master Food Preserver Training — Summer 2009
Wondering what to do with all that garden produce? Do you want to learn about home canning so that you can teach others? Then consider attending the Master Food Preserver and Food Safety Volunteer training! This 3-day program is designed to introduce you to the basics of food safety and home food preservation. Participants can be certified as Master Food Preservers. Topics include general food safety, microorganisms and home food processing; canning high or low acid foods; freezing and drying food; jams, jellies and related products; and pickles, relishes and fermented products. 2008 Plat Book & Marathon County Land Atlas
Marathon County Land Atlas & Plat Books are available at the UW-Extension Office and several other county locations. Platbooks are a convenient reference for local governments, businesses, and the general public. Proceeds go to Marathon County 4-H Leaders Federation to help fund various 4-H programs. 4-H Community Clubs
4-H provides real-life experiences for youth through practical, learn-by-doing educational programs. It is for all youth in grades K-13 (one year out of high school). Wherever you live, rural or city, 4-H has something for you. 4-H activities help youth develop self-esteem, become responsible young adults, gain a sense of belonging and improve decision-making, communication and leadership skills.
