Ag & Forest Land Values Fall

Extension Agricultural Development Educator Tom Cadwallader has been tracking farm and forest land values in Lincoln, Langlade and Marathon Counties for 20 years. For the first time in those 20 years the value of the land that was sold with the intention of keeping it in either farming or forestry dropped in all three counties. Also for the first time in 20 years there were no reported sales of farmland intended to be diverted into another use in either Lincoln or Langlade Counties. While the State of Wisconsin saw about a 1% drop in farmland prices between 2008 and 2009, the three county area dropped about 4%. In the forest category, statewide there was about a 4% decline in prices paid while Lincoln, Langlade and Marathon dropped over 12%.
