COOL & Fair Exhibitors — Effective July, 2009
COOL means Country of Origin Labeling! It is a paperwork requirement that took effect March 16, 2009. This USDA rule provides consumers the knowledge and information of where their food originated. There has been much discussion on this topic since the 2002 farm bill, and it is now going into effect. This rule affects beef, lamb pork, and goats as well as other commodities like fish, nuts and ginseng. For more information, visit the UW-Extension Youth Livestock COOL web page. | COOL Info for Parents & Exhibitors (3 pages, 295 KB) | COOL Info for Fair Staff (5 pages, 252 KB)
Market Animal Exhibitors have been asked to retain their sales receipts when purchasing project animals. These receipts and other documentation, including completed COOL forms, are to be kept by the exhibitor for 2 years after the fair. Cool Forms are required by State Fair and all other exhibitions where animals are being shipped to large packing houses rather than being sold to individual buyers, such as at the Wisconsin Valley Fair Market Animal Show and Sale. |

Wisconsin Positive Youth Futures
Children, Youth and Families at Risk (CYFAR)
Wisconsin Cooperative Extension has been working to build its institutional capacity to serve at-risk audiences in recent years. CYFAR - Wisconsin, a USDA funded project will create positive learning opportunities for at risk youth. Two sites have been selected, one in the city of Wausau, and another in the city of Milwaukee. These sites were selected based on the needs and demographics of the targeted populations and the potential of staff to facilitate successful programs with those populations.
