American Indian Tribal Governments Training — July 16 & 17
An interactive workshop on American Indian Tribal Government will be led by Dr Elizabeth Arbuckle Wabindato on July 16 and 17, 2008 at the Wisconsin Learning Center in Stevens Point. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss tribal-state relations, learn about the eleven tribes in Wisconsin and their cultures, explore way to build constructive relationships and become more familiar with laws and policies affecting the tribes. The workshop is sponsored by UW-Stevens Point, the Wisconsin Indian Education Association and the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board. EPA Offers Free Training on Managing Energy Use
Beginning Wednesday, March 19 and over the coming weeks, the EPA, through its Energy Star program, is offering free Internet-based training sessions for local governments. These sessions will cover several ways a community can harness Energy Star to better manage municipal energy use and reduce emissions, including improving government facilities, measuring and tracking facility energy use and launching an Energy Star Challenge. Transportation Information Center
Every year Wisconsin municipalities spend one billion dollars to repair and replace roads and bridges. There are nearly 100,000 miles of local roads in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Transportation Information Center (TIC) helps local officials manage their road systems and transportation budgets. The TIC offers training, publishes a newsletter and technical bulletins, supports a pavement management system for local roads, and gives advice. CNRED IN MARATHON COUNTY
A Community Natural Resources, Economic Development (CNRED) educator designs and delivers educational programs and technical assistance to help communities deal with their own unique challenges. Backed by University of Wisconsin research, CNRED educators work with local government, civic organizations, businesses and community leaders to enhance local decision-making and help communities respond to new challenges and opportunities. They work to:
- Establish ongoing programs that educate the public and elected officials about current issues
- Strengthen local government
- Develop local leadership capacity
- Protect natural resources for future generations
