EXPLORING THE BENEFITS OF A PROFESSIONAL COACHING GROUP
Have you wished for more networking opportunities with others in your community who help manage and lead organizations? Would you like to learn from their experiences and have an opportunity to share your challenges and your learning in a safe structured environment?
Personal and professional coaching has fast become one of the most popular forms of development today. Coaching skills are critical for successful leadership and supervision. CRD Educator Mary Kluz is exploring the potential for pilot peer coaching/learning groups in our area.
In peer learning circles, unlike a seminar or workshop, each member is considered to be an expert and, during their time slot in the meeting, leads the group in helping that member. The focus is on learning, primarily through insightful questioning and reflection on actions, rather than on presentations by a subject matter expert. According to Kluz, “Dialogue is a natural way for people to learn. It is simple and very powerful. However, when we need help with our work, we often do not have access to our peers. The peer learning circles model is a very effective model for facilitating that process.”
