Community Development

A Community Natural Resources, Economic Development (CNRED) educator designs and delivers educational programs and technical assistance to help communities deal with their own unique challenges. Backed by University of Wisconsin research, CNRED educators work with local government, civic organizations, businesses and community leaders to enhance local decision-making and help communities respond to new challenges and opportunities. They work to:

  • Establish ongoing programs that educate the public and elected officials about current issues
  • Strengthen local government
  • Develop local leadership capacity
  • Protect natural resources for future generations

Towns & Villages Association Meetings

In Marathon County, local government officials have the opportunity to be part of either the Eastern Marathon County Towns and Villages Association or the Western Marathon County Towns and Villages Association. Association meetings are held quarterly. A joint meeting of both associations is held Thursday, July 26, 2012.

Meeting notices and agendas will be sent out approximately three weeks prior to each meeting.

The 2012 Towns and Villages Association meetings start at 7:30 p.m. and are scheduled:

Second Quarter Thursday April 19, 2012
Third Quarter Thursday July 26, 2012 (joint meeting)
Fourth Quarter Thursday October 18, 2012

UW-Extension’s Regional Natural Resources Program

The University of Wisconsin-Extension, in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and other agencies and organizations, supports a Regional Natural Resources Program. This program includes a network of educators located throughout Wisconsin, with expertise in water resources, forestry, citizen engagement, process facilitation, and design and delivery of natural resource outreach materials.
