JANUARY 2009

January 27 - April 21 — Master Gardener General Training
This 12 week program is designed for persons interested in becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer. Individuals are trained by UW-Extension staff. Volunteers help people in the community better understand horticulture and their environment. The training is held on Tuesday evenings from 5:45 - 9 pm. If you are interested in becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer call the UW-Extension at 715-261-1231; information on the program will be mailed in early November, 2008.

January 30-31 — Garden Visions 2009: Under the Cloak of Winter
Plaza Hotel & Suites, Wausau, WI. Saturday keynote speaker Art Wolk, Garden Lunacy, plus Friday evening Photography Contest Exhibit, Hands on Workshops & Sessions, Meet & Greet Speakers & Book Signings.


WEEKLY EVENTS (thru growing season)

UW-Extension Free Garden Clinics

Wednesdays only, starting May 14 through September 10, 2008, from 10 am to 2 pm (no clinic on Wednesday, June 7) at the local Marathon County UW-Extension office. Master Gardener volunteers answer questions, diagnose problems, and offer advice. No appointment necessary.

Wausau Farmers Market
Held every Wednesday and Saturday from 7 am until vendors sell out or choose to close. The Farmers Market, 400 River Drive in downtown Wausau, just south of the VFW. Starts in mid-May and runs through the end of October. Contact 453-3163 for more information.

River District Marketplace, Wausau

Held by the Wausau Area Events, Inc. Every Thursday of month starting June through September from 9:30 am - 2:00 pm. Located on the 400 block in downtown Wausau thru fall. Products include fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, soaps, lotions, and crafts. Contact Leah Alters, Wausau Area Events, at 843-0748 for vendor information.

Weston Farmer's Market

Located just west of the Municipal Center at 5500 Schofield Avenue, the Village of Weston Farmer's Market offers fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables along with meats, crafts and fresh bakery throughout the spring, summer and fall months. The Farmer's Market is open every Saturday and Tuesday morning from 7 a.m. to sold out from May through October. Contact the Village of Weston at 359-6114 for more information.

Mosinee Farmers Market
The Mosinee Farmers Market will be held every Tuesday from 3 - 7 pm, and Saturday from 7 am - noon at River Park, Mosinee June thru October. General produce available. Contact the Chamber of Commerce at 693-4330 for more information.

Merrill Area Farmers Market
Runs from late June until the end of October. The market begins at 7 am and sellers stay until they are sold out. They are located on the 100 block of North Center Avenue across from the Sheriff's Department parking lot on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
