Weirauch garden, Garden Walk 2009GARDEN WALK 2009 - KRIS WEIRAUCH

Weirauch | Rothmeyer | Folz | Meuret | Guiette | Rothschild Village Hall

Kris Weirauch - 5917 Morning View Lane, Weston

There were no gardens when Kris moved to her home eight years ago, but now when you enter the backyard, you might think that you have stepped onto the pages of your favorite gardening magazine.

The “lawn” is a series of paths that lead you from bed to bed of beautiful blossoms. Each of these beds is outlined with large stones that Kris brought home and put in place herself. You will find nearly every perennial that grows in this zone in Kris’ flower gardens plus an herb garden, a pond complete with aquatic plants, and a small fruit garden containing strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. And to sit back and enjoy it all, there is a comfy pergola with bittersweet and wisteria climbing its pillars.

The many unusual screens and trellises hold still more flowering vines. An especially creative screen made of posts and windows allows you to sit on the patio while viewing the gardens. Kris is now beginning work on her front lawn, building a retaining wall, a dry streambed, and planting more shrubs and perennials.

Directions: Take Hwy 51 to 29 east. Take exit #173 and turn left, north, onto Camp Phillips Road, continue to Schofield Avenue. Turn right on Schofield Avenue/Hwy JJ and continue east for 1.2 miles. Turn left (at the Arrow Sport’s Bar) onto Fuller Street. Follow Fuller Street to Morning View, 0.8 miles. Turn right onto Morning View and continue for 0.2 miles. Weirauch gardens are on your right.
